Research grant-in-aid (herein after “grant-in-aid”) will be awarded to outstanding, self-financed international students to focus on their academic research obtaining the degree. The University of Tokyo (herein after “UTokyo”) fellowship also aims to promote the enrolment of outstanding international students.

Recipients are awarded a monthly research grant-in-aid of 200,000 yen for the standard period of study in their respective graduate programs (up to one year for research students).
Self-financed international students with outstanding performance to be admitted to the graduate schools at UTokyo are eligible. Applicants for exemption of tuition fee will not be excluded. However, if accepted for the grant-in-aid, it is expected to withdraw the application for exemption of tuition fee. It is also not possible to receive the other scholarships designated by the Executive Vice President.
Applications must be submitted through the applicant's affiliated or prospective Graduate School.
