The Protect our Islands Pasifika Scholarship is offered by Pacific Biosecurity Limited to increase the number of Pasifika students advancing from an undergraduate degree through to postgraduate studies in the life sciences.

Pacific Biosecurity Limited is a not-for-profit company formed by former student Monica Gruber. The company undertakes environmental consultancy work in the Pacific region, with an emphasis on supporting the protection of peoples, cultures, environments, and economies of Pacific Island countries and territories from the threat of invasive species.

Aim and Benefits of Protect our Islands Pasifika Scholarship

Value: $5,000 - $10,000, depending on the funds available and the number of applicants.

Requirements for Protect our Islands Pasifika Scholarship Qualification

Applicants must be:

• Of Pacific descent
• Enrolled in their final year of undergraduate studies at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington
• Intending to enrol in a postgraduate programme (full or part time) at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington in ecology, marine ecology, marine biology or environmental studies
• Holding a GPA of 6.5 or above
• Experiencing some form of disadvantage or financial hardship.

Applicants do not have to be studying towards a science undergraduate degree but must meet the entry requirements for their chosen course of postgraduate study.

Interview date, Process and Venue for Protect our Islands Pasifika Scholarship

Selection will be based on academic merit, demonstration of disadvantage or financial hardship, and commitment to continuing to postgraduate study.
