As a Product Design Intern, you will help create the next generation of hardware devices. You will gain hands-on experience bringing the design from concept to reality.
- Hands-On Design: 3D and 2D mechanical design of components, mechanisms, and electro-mechanical integrations (battery, antenna, PCB, interconnections).
- Prototyping & Testing: Help generate concepts, build prototypes, and perform rigorous mechanical, tolerance, and failure analysis to evaluate the design.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Hardware, Program Management, Industrial Design, Operations, Manufacturing, and Reliability teams to ensure designs meet aesthetic and functional goals.
Responsibilities
- Support design, engineering, prototyping, and validation activities in both laboratory and factory environments.
- Create 3D models and 2D drawings, and perform tolerance analysis to ensure precise fit and assembly.
- Conduct engineering data collection and leverage statistical or AI-driven tools to analyze results and inform design decisions.
- Optimize component designs for high-volume manufacturing, applying DFM/DFA principles for injection molding, sheet metal, and CNC machining.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support factory builds and perform root-cause/failure analysis (may include up to 20% travel).
- Communicate technical specifications, test results, and design updates clearly and effectively to internal teams and external vendors.
