Bond University Indigenous Higher Degree by Research Scholarship 2025

Bond University is committed to providing a culturally safe and supportive learning environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students where they can progress and complete a higher degree education program.

Bond is committed to First Nations voices and supporting First Nations students at both undergraduate and post graduate levels, as such, the aim of this scholarship is to promote the participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in higher degree research. Eligible Indigenous students are encouraged to apply for this scholarship.

There are two key overarching principles for determining the distribution of scholarships among applicants. First, scholarships are to be awarded through a merit-based process. Second, scholarship applicants are to be treated equitably and fairly, regardless of their research discipline, and regardless of the source of their scholarship funding.

Aim and Benefits of Bond University Indigenous Higher Degree by Research Scholarship

A scholarship for all successful applicants includes:

• Stipend (living allowance) up to three years. The 2025 full-time stipend rate for both scholarship categories will be $33,511 per annum (indexed annually).
• Indigenous scholarship applicants are already entitled to a 100% fee waiver under the Australian Government Research Training Program.

Requirements for Bond University Indigenous Higher Degree by Research Scholarship Qualification

To be eligible you must

• Be an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person as defined by ABSTUDY
• You must have a valid Bond University Letter of Offer for a PhD program or a Professional Doctorate of Occupational Therapy
• You must be studying your program full time

Additionally, you must not:

• hold a qualification at the same or a higher level than the higher degree by research program you are undertaking
• be receiving a living allowance award, scholarship or salary providing a benefit greater than 75% of the RTP Scholarship living allowance rate to undertake the higher degree by research program
• be receiving a Commonwealth-funded tuition fee scholarship

Applicants are required to provide compelling evidence of their Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status. This will involve confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status under the common seal of a community organisation. Where exceptional circumstances apply, statutory declarations and other forms of documentation may be considered. Original or certified copies of supporting documentation must be provided.

Your scholarship application will not be assessed until you have received a valid Letter of Offer for admission to a doctoral research program from Bond University Admissions Department.

Some applications for admission can take up to 6 -10 weeks to complete. Ensure that you allow sufficient time to process your application for admission before the scholarship round closure date
