Bond University Indigenous Higher Degree by Research Scholarship 2026

Bond University is committed to providing a culturally safe and supportive learning environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students where they can progress and complete a higher degree education program.

Bond is committed to First Nations voices and supporting First Nations students at both undergraduate and post graduate levels, as such, the aim of this scholarship is to promote the participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in higher degree research. Eligible Indigenous students are encouraged to apply for this scholarship.

There are two key overarching principles for determining the distribution of scholarships among applicants. First, scholarships are to be awarded through a merit-based process. Second, scholarship applicants are to be treated equitably and fairly, regardless of their research discipline, and regardless of the source of their scholarship funding.

Aim and Benefits of Bond University Indigenous Higher Degree by Research Scholarship Postgraduate Scholarship

A scholarship for all successful applicants includes:

  • Stipend (living allowance) up to three years. The 2025 full-time stipend rate for both scholarship categories will be $34,315 per annum (indexed annually).
  • Indigenous scholarship applicants are already entitled to a 100% fee waiver under the Australian Government Research Training Program.

Requirements for Bond University Indigenous Higher Degree by Research Scholarship Postgraduate Scholarship Qualification

To be eligible you must

  • Be an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person as defined by ABSTUDY
  • You must have a valid Bond University Letter of Offer for a PhD program or a Professional Doctorate of Occupational Therapy
  • You must be studying your program full time

Additionally, you must not:

  • hold a qualification at the same or a higher level than the higher degree by research program you are undertaking
  • be receiving a living allowance award, scholarship or salary providing a benefit greater than 75% of the RTP Scholarship living allowance rate to undertake the higher degree by research program
  • be receiving a Commonwealth-funded tuition fee scholarship

Applicants are required to provide compelling evidence of their Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status. This will involve confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status under the common seal of a community organisation. Where exceptional circumstances apply, statutory declarations and other forms of documentation may be considered. Original or certified copies of supporting documentation must be provided.

Documents Required for Application

The following documents will form part of your scholarship application assessment. 

  • Research Project Proposal
  • Academic Transcripts including the results/grades awarded, information on institution grading systems/scales, and evidence of completion
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) Please include any research publications and conference presentations
  • Prize and Award Certificates
  • Two Referee reports

Scholarship applications received after the nominated round closure date will not be considered.

Scholarship applications cannot progress to being considered for assessment until all required documents are received.
