Aim and Benefits of Scholarships

Each Butex scholarship is valued at £600. The award will be disbursed once the recipient has arrived and registered at their host university, or upon confirmation of a completed placement.

Additionally, Butex honours the memory of our late Treasurer with the Tony Emmerson Award, a special £600 scholarship presented to a successful American Studies student.

Requirements for Scholarships Qualification

To be eligible to apply you must:

• Be offered, currently undertaking, or have already completed a study abroad or exchange placement, or a summer school/work/internship/traineeship placement.
• Your placement must take place within the calendar year of your application.
• Study abroad placements must be for either one semester or a full year.
• Summer School, Work, Internship, or Traineeship placements must be overseas and can vary in length.
• Be enrolled in your undergraduate course when you apply for and receive the scholarship.
• Graduated students are not eligible.

Applicants may submit only one entry and must ensure their placement is eligible for this award.

By entering the Butex scholarship competition, you agree to allow the Butex Manager to contact your institution to confirm your registration at the host university. If awarded a scholarship, you agree to provide a photograph and a short statement about the benefits of your study/work abroad experience, which may be used by Butex for future publicity.

All applicants will be notified of the outcome, as we value the time and effort invested in each application. The decision of the Butex selection committee is final, and no correspondence will be entered into with unsuccessful applicants.
