ETH Zurich 2025 Scholarship Fund of the Swiss Chemical Industry (SSCI)

The Scholarship Fund of the Swiss Chemical Industry (SSCI) is a joint initiative of ETH Zurich and the two companies Janssen AG and Givaudan Schweiz AG.

The aim of this Scholarship Fund is to support outstanding PhD-students in the field of chemistry and applied biosciences during their doctoral studies and thus reverse the current deficit of qualified chemists in industry. As well, the Fund will cultivate an early and regular exchange between the students, the involved companies and ETH Zurich in the chemical sciences.

Requirements for Scholarship Fund of the Swiss Chemical Industry (SSCI) Qualification

All PhD-students of the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences (D-CHAB) at ETH Zurich during the first year of graduate school. The scholarship is intended to support awardees from the second through the fourth year.

Every year, a number of students will be selected for a Scholarship Fund of the Swiss Chemical Industry. Apart from having one more award in their CV, the awardees benefit especially from an early and important exchange with the industry.

Interview date, Process and Venue for Scholarship Fund of the Swiss Chemical Industry (SSCI)

A committee consisting of professors of D-CHAB and a representative of each partner company is responsible for the selection. The nomination packages will be evaluated on account of the candidate's qualifications and the scientific content.

Documents Required for Application

Students submit a complete nomination package (one single PDF-file), written in English and consisting of :

• Cover letter
• Curriculum vitae with photograph
• Research summary that includes an abstract, suitably detailed research outline (max. 5 pages)
• Listing of Master/Diploma/BSc grades
• Letter of reference from the faculty mentor
• Submission of applications will be accepted between Sept 2024 and Oct 31, 2024
