Flinders University is seeking an outstanding PhD candidate for a Flinders PhD Enterprise Scholarship.
This is an exciting project in partnership between Flinders University and The South Australian Government’s Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing (ORSR). The project will be based in Adelaide, South Australia and will have a 60-day industry-based component with ORSR.
This PhD explores how fun operates as a core experiential concept shaping the quality of youth sport. Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, it will map the dimensions of fun as understood by children and stakeholders across diverse groups and settings, and examine how these early experiences influence ongoing sport trajectories.
This project will impact industry by advancing theoretical understandings of fun in youth sport while generating practical recommendations for designing programs that foster meaningful, engaging, and lasting participation.
The student will be supported within the College of Human Sciences and Culture’s Institute for Mental Health and Wellbeing, and supervised by Associate Professor Sam Elliott, Dr Kate Ridley, and Michelle Crisp (ORSR).
