Flinders University 2022 Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellowship PhD Scholarship

A PhD scholarship is available to work on the ARC Future Fellowship Project: Molecular movies using time-resolved momentum spectroscopies. This exciting project is in the area of physics, chemistry and/or material science within the Institute of Nanoscale Science and Technology housed within the College of Science and Engineering, Flinders University. Candidates will perform research along the project themes of combining computational and/or experimental approaches to look at the evolution of electron motion in molecules and/or materials after they have absorbed light, with aims to understand how electron behaviour drives physical processes or can induce chemical changes.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of ARC Future Fellow, Dr Darryl Jones, at Flinders University (Bedford Park Campus).

Aim and Benefits of Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellowship PhD Scholarship

The scholarship includes:

  • a stipend valued at $29 863 per annum (2023 rate) tax free.
  • The scholarship will be awarded for up to 3 years
  • a Research Training Program Fee Offset Scholarship to cover tuition fees for Australian Citizens, NZ Citizens and Permanent Residents.

Proposer to advise if an extension is possible


Requirements for Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellowship PhD Scholarship Qualification

To be eligible for the award of this scholarship a student must:

  • Be an Australian citizen; or New Zealand citizen; or have been granted permanent resident status; and
  • meet PhD admission requirements including: have an Australian Honours degree Class 1 or 2A or equivalent qualification (at least AQF Level 8), including a research component of at least 6 months’ full-time study achieving Distinction (75%) OR including evidence of equivalent research experience, such as a substantial first-author refereed publication or track record as an investigator on a competitive grant; and
  •  be available to commence as a full-time PhD student at Flinders University in semester 1, 2023;

ADMISSION to HDR

By lodging this separate application, applicants acknowledge:

  • The ‘Supervisor confirmation’ must refer to the application for this scholarship
  • The application for PhD admission will only be assessed where:
  •  The applicant is successful in being awarded the scholarship 

APPLICATION

Prior to submitting an application for the scholarship, prospective applicants are advised to contact the Project lead, Dr Darryl Jones via email ([email protected]) to discuss your interest and eligibility in the opportunity. 

The successful candidate will ideally begin in early 2023, subject to negotiation (and not later than 31/3/2023)

You may need to fill in the below application form, provide a copy of your CV together with a covering letter outlining your relevant qualifications, experience, research experience and reasons for applying for the scholarship or any other supporting documents deemed necessary.
