Applications are now open for the Flinders University 2025 Alastair Hunter OAM Medical Scholarship. Established in 2024, this scholarship addresses the urgent need for skilled physicians by supporting students in the final three years of the Doctor of Medicine program at Flinders University's College of Medicine and Public Health. The Scholarship’s primary goal is to ensure that financial disadvantage does not hinder access to medical education for promising students with the potential to excel in the practise of medicine.
The Alastair Hunter Medical Scholarship, established in 2024 by a generous donation from Mr. Alastair C. S. Hunter OAM, who was inspired by his father's distinguished career as a dedicated general practitioner.
Flinders University is a public university in Adelaide, South Australia. Founded in 1966, it was named in honour of navigator Matthew Flinders, who explored and surveyed the South Australian coastline in the early 19th century. The scholarships will be awarded from 2025 will have a value of $6,500 per annum, for a maximum of three years. The scholarship will be paid in equal instalments after the census date of each semester. The number of scholarships will be determined by available funding.

Selection Criteria
The scholarship will be awarded based on academic excellence, based on GPA at the time of admission into the Doctor of Medicine program, financial need, and disadvantaged background. Selection will be undertaken by a panel comprising representatives from the College of Medicine and Public Health and Student Administrative Services.
