Flinders University 2025 Peter Bailie Scholarship for Indigenous Students in the Health Sciences

The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to Indigenous students undertaking an undergraduate course in Health Sciences at Flinders University.

A generous donation from the Trustees of the Estate of the late Peter Bailie, a former Director of Administration and Registrar of the University, established the Peter Bailie Scholarship in Clinical Nursing. After many years of supporting students undertaking postgraduate courses in Clinical Nursing and after consultation with the Trustees, the scholarships’ focus has now shifted to reflect the life and work of Peter by encouraging the successful retention and graduation of Indigenous students in the Health Sciences.

Aim and Benefits of Peter Bailie Scholarship

Each scholarship will have a value of $5000 paid in equal instalments after the census date of each semester.

Requirements for Peter Bailie Scholarship Qualification

Applicants for the scholarship must:

• Be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; and
• Identify as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; and
• Be accepted as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander by the community in which they live or have lived; and
• Be enrolled in the third year of a health related course within the College of Medicine and Public Health or the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Flinders University.

Selection Criteria

The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit/financial need. Scholarship selection will be made in accordance with approved University procedures.
