Applications are now open forthe Flinders University 2025 Sophia Indigenous Scholarship. A generous donation from the Sophia Fund, has enabled the establishment of the Sophia Indigenous Scholarships. Subject to the availability of funds, up to two scholarships will be awarded annually. They have been established to encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to undertake a higher education course.
Flinders University is a public university in Adelaide, South Australia. Founded in 1966, it was named in honour of navigator Matthew Flinders, who explored and surveyed the South Australian coastline in the early 19th century. Flinders is a verdant university[citation needed] and a member of the Innovative Research Universities (IRU) Group and ranks in the 10-16 bracket in Australia and 36th in the world of those established less than 50 years. Up to two Scholarships will be available per year. Each scholarship will be valued at $5000 and paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester. The number of scholarships will depend on the funding available.
Applicants for these scholarships must:
*Applications will be accepted from part-time students who have extenuating circumstances that prevent them from studying full-time (e.g., disabilities, carer responsibilities).
Selection Criteria
Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic potential. The academic potential of applicants will be assessed by way of the Selection Score used to gain entry to their course of study. Scholarship selection will be made by the Office of Indigenous Strategy and Engagement and in accordance with University procedures.
Please complete the Proof of Indigeneity document attached below and submit with your online application through the Flinders University Student System by the specified closing date.
Applicants will need to login and navigate to the My Scholarships tab to submit an application. The application form for this scholarship is called “Indigenous Scholarships”, or you can search for it by the keyword "Indigenous". You will be considered for multiple scholarships if you complete this application.
