Flinders University PhD Scholarships for the Global Hydrogen Production (HyPT) Centre 2024

We are seeking two outstanding candidates for PhD scholarships for the Global Hydrogen Production (HyPT) Centre with a comprehensive team of 34 leading scholars from 19 institutions in six countries (US, Australia, Canada, Egypt and Germany) to formulate the pathway to large-scale net-zero hydrogen production. Flinders University offers two funded PhD scholarships in the fields:

a) Clusters as co-catalysts for photocatalysts (Principal supervisor Prof Gunther Andersson, project 1); and

b) Water resources (Principal supervisors Prof Okke Batelaan and Assoc Prof Ilka Wallis, project 2).

PhD Scholarships

Aim and Benefits of PhD Scholarships

The scholarship includes:

• A stipend  valued at $35,000* per annum tax free.
• The scholarships will be awarded for initially three years with the option to extend by half a year.
• A Research Training Program Fee Offset Scholarship to cover tuition fees for Australian Citizens, NZ Citizens and Permanent Residents.
• Overseas students will be considered 

Requirements for PhD Scholarships Qualification

To be eligible for the award of this scholarship a student must:

• Be an Australian citizen; or New Zealand citizen; or have been granted permanent resident status; or are international citizens (overseas student application will be considered); and
• meet PhD admission requirements including: have an Australian Honours degree Class 1 or 2A or equivalent qualification (at least AQF Level 8), including a research component of at least 6 months’ full-time study achieving Distinction (75%) OR including evidence of equivalent research experience, such as a substantial first-author refereed publication or track record as an investigator on a competitive grant; and
• Have for project 1 a degree and research experience in Physics or Chemistry (ideally in surface functionalisation and surface analysis and for project 2 candidates with Masters or honours degrees in the following disciplines will be favourably considered: Earth/Environmental Science, Civil/Environmental Engineering. Quantitative groundwater hydrology research experience would be particularly welcomed.
• be available to commence as a full-time PhD student at Flinders University before the end of 2024.

The successful candidate will ideally begin as soon as possible but not later than 15 December 2024.
