Flinders University Research Scholarships (FURS) 2027

Flinders University Research Scholarships are awarded to postgraduate students on the basis of academic merit and research potential. The scholarships enable suitably qualified applicants to proceed to a full-time Masters degree by research or Doctorate by research.  

Flinders University Research Scholarships are tenable at Flinders University for up to three years and six months for a Doctorate by research, or up to two years for a Masters degree, subject to satisfactory progress. Periods of study already undertaken towards the degree will be deducted from the maximum period of tenure.

Aim and Benefits of Flinders University Research Scholarships (FURS) Postgraduate Scholarship

  • The scholarship pays an indexed stipend of $36,061 p.a. tax free (2026 full time rate). Recipients who are Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens, or hold Australian Permanent Residency status will be provided a RTP fee Offset which covers tuition fees charged by the university for up to four years. 
  • A limited number of fee waiver scholarships may be available for International students. 
  • International students who are not in receipt of a fee waiver scholarship will be required to pay the normal tuition fees.

Requirements for Flinders University Research Scholarships (FURS) Postgraduate Scholarship Qualification

Awards will only be available to those who:

  • Are Australian citizens; or New Zealand citizens; or have been granted permanent resident status;
  • Are an international student who has completed an honours or equivalent qualification at an Australian University no more than three years prior to the application closing date;
  • Have completed at least four years of tertiary education studies at a high level of achievement and have an appropriate Honours 1 or high 2A (or equivalent) undergraduate degree;
  • Are enrolling as full-time students;
  • Will commence or are continuing a Masters degree by research or Doctorate by research;?
  • Have had their candidature accepted in the area in which they propose to undertake their studies.

Interview date, Process and Venue for Flinders University Research Scholarships (FURS) Postgraduate Scholarship

  • Selection of award holders will be undertaken by the HDR Scholarships Committee based on academic merit and research potential.
  • Applications will be scored on academic merit, academic research training merit, research outputs and research impact statement of intent. Research excellence and equity scores may be awarded.
  • The University will give priority to students undertaking a higher degree by research for the first time.
