Flinders University Supporting Desistance from Crime in the Community Project Honours Bursary 2026

This bursary is attached to an Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Research Award (DECRA) project titled Co-Designing and Testing a New Framework for Correctional Supervision. The DECRA project focuses on developing and testing an approach to community-based correctional supervision known as “assisted desistance,” which centres on supporting the social and psychological processes involved in behaviour change. The project uses mixed methods, including focus groups and surveys with people under the supervision of the Department for Correctional Services SA, as well as community corrections officers.

This bursary will support a student to undertake an Honours project in an area of specialisation aligned with the broader DECRA project. The student will be able to contribute to DECRA data collection and use project data in their thesis.

The bursary will provide financial support that the student can use towards their living expenses so that they can focus on their Honours project.

• $5,000

Requirements for Supporting Desistance from Crime in the Community Project Honours Bursary Undergraduate Scholarship Qualification

Applicants must, within the discipline of Criminology:

• have completed an undergraduate degree, or
• be completing an undergraduate degree, or
• be completing the first three years of a four-year Honours degree;
• be enrolled in or eligible for a 36 unit Honours program, or
• be enrolled in a four year Honours program; and 
• intend to be enrolled full-time for the Honours year*

*Applications will be accepted from part-time students who have extenuating circumstances that prevent them from studying full-time (e.g. disabilities, carer responsibilities). Part-time recipients will be paid pro rata.

• Selection will be based on academic merit and demonstrated suitability for the specific research project.

• A copy of their academic transcript; and
• A short suitability statement explaining their interest in this project and why they would be the best candidate (e.g., what skills and experience they bring to the project).
