Georgetown University 2023 The Earth Commons Academic Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Earth Commons: Georgetown University's Institute for Environment and Sustainability (Eco Institute) invites applications for postdoctoral academic fellowships for start dates of Fall 2023. ECo Fellows will be expected to conduct interdisciplinary research on various aspects of environment and sustainability challenges and scholarship (e.g., climate and climate change, biodiversity conservation, food and water security, environmental justice). ECo Fellows will also be expected to co-teach with a faculty mentor for one semester.

Aim and Benefits of The Earth Commons Academic Postdoctoral Fellowship

Postdoctoral Fellowships are awarded for two years, although year two is contingent upon successful progress in year one. In accepting the appointment, the fellow is expected to be in residence at Georgetown University except for absences agreed upon with mentor(s).


Requirements for The Earth Commons Academic Postdoctoral Fellowship Qualification

Applicants should have developed a proposed area of study and teaching project in collaboration with an Earth Commons Affiliate Faculty Member.

Applications that are prepared without this will not be considered. Particularly strong proposals will include faculty mentors from multiple departments or schools within Georgetown University.

Applicants must propose to conduct research and teach with one or more Earth Commons faculty or affiliated faculty.

How to Apply

Submission Materials: 250 word project abstract with current Curriculum Vitae.

Abstract is not to exceed 250 words (12pt font, double spaced), and must include a description of the research, including explicit question/hypothesis you plan to undertake. Ensure to include a clear justification for conducting your project/research with the identified faculty members(s). A list of prospective Georgetown Faculty mentors can be found here.

Application will be in two rounds. For initial submission, candidates are asked to provide an initial submission of a proposal project abstract (details below), CV, and Cover letter. Materials must be submitted by December 22nd, 2022. Following initial review, those continuing will then be invited to submit a full proposal in early Spring.
