Applications are now open for the LSHTM 2025 Helena Vrbova Scholarship. Dr Helena Vrbova died tragically in Papua New Guinea in 1982, at the age of 29, where she was involved in research in malaria.

Aim and Benefits of Helena Vrbova Scholarship

The scholarship, with an award value of GBP 1,500.00, is to be used for students whose studies are directed towards malaria. The successful candidates will receive a briefing on the life and work of Dr Helena Vrbova.

Requirements for Helena Vrbova Scholarship Qualification

• This scholarship is open to suitably qualified postgraduate research (PhD) or intensive programme Masters (MSc) students whose research is directed towards malaria.
• Applicants must be registered as a full-time student at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine for one of the intensive MSc programmes, or as a research degree student.

How to Apply

• Log in to the Scholarships Application Portal via e-vision using your LSHTM login details.
• Please search for ‘Helena Vrbova Scholarship’ if you wish to apply for this funding, and then answer all the questions online and attach any documents required as part of your application.
  • Application Form – can be accessed by clicking here. Please complete all tabs of the excel document, which includes:
    • Application Form – Complete all information on this tab of the excel document.
    • Budget – The budget should provide a full list of projected costs for the project, and include justification for the costs. Please highlight which costs are to be covered by the scholarship, as well as show details of how other costs will be covered.
    • Timetable – Please provide a timetable for the project work.
  • Supervisor Letter of Support – Applicants will need to upload a supporting letter from their supervisor for the proposed project work for which they are requesting funding. You will not be able to submit your application without attaching this letter to your online application.
• Once you are happy with all your responses you can press submit and you should receive a confirmation of receipt email at your LSHTM email address.
• The scholarships portal will not be able to accept applications after the deadline stated above.
• The Scholarships team will be in touch with an outcome in due course.
