Macquarie University Full PhD scholarship in Physics/Electronics 2026

The SiP Lab at Macquarie University is offering two fully-funded PhD scholarships focused on the development of Integrated Circuit (IC) chips using nanoscale semiconductor technologies for applications in high-radiation environments. These environments span critical domains such as space and particle physics experiments. The research will emphasise designing IC chips for advanced scientific experiments, including those at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, as well as satellite missions. The scope of the work encompasses chip design and characterisation, embedded system development, and the simulation of radiation effects in semiconductor materials. Additionally, the research involves the use of particle accelerator facilities to test nanoscale electronics under exposure to heavy ions and high-energy particles, ensuring robust performance in extreme conditions.

The PhD candidate will be part of an international collaboration between Macquarie University, the University of Milan, Italian National Institute of Nuclear Physics and CERN to enable the use of last generations of ultra-low power and nanoscale chips in the forefront of science and technologies.

Aim and Benefits of Macquarie University PhD Scholarship

The scholarship comprises:

• a tuition fee offset/scholarship
• a living allowance stipend.

The value of each stipend scholarship is $38,500 per annum (full time, indexed) for three years.

Requirements for Macquarie University PhD Scholarship Qualification

• This scholarship is available to eligible candidates to undertake a direct entry three-year PhD.
• The ideal student has experience in physics or electronics.
