Matthew Flinders Scholarship 2025 for International Students

Applications are now open for the Matthew Flinders Scholarship 2025 for International Students. Scholarships will be awarded to assist students in financial hardship.

Scholarships will be funded by community donations. These monies and donations have been pooled in an account named the “Matthew Flinders Scholarship Fund” within the University’s Karmel Endowment Fund.

About Flinders University

Aim and Benefits of Matthew Flinders Scholarship

The scholarships are to be used to assist students in the continuation of studies at Flinders University. Each scholarship will consist of a single payment of $1,000.

The number of scholarships will be dependent on available funds.

Requirements for Matthew Flinders Scholarship Qualification

Domestic Applicants for the scholarship must:

• Be enrolled full-time at Flinders University*; and
• Have completed a minimum of one-year full-time equivalent study towards their course (36 units or 1 EFTSL); and
• Be an Australian Citizen, NZ Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident, or a Permanent Humanitarian visa holder, and
• Be in receipt of a Commonwealth Income Support payment or be able to demonstrate equivalent financial hardship; and
• Be facing difficult circumstances which are beyond your control, and that are increasing your financial hardship.

International Applicants for the scholarship must:

• Be enrolled full-time at Flinders University*; and
• Have completed a minimum of one-year full-time equivalent study towards their course (36 units or 1 EFTSL); and
• Be an international student** enrolled onshore in Australia; and
• Be facing difficult circumstances which are beyond your control, and that are causing you genuine financial hardship.

*Students enrolled part-time may be eligible, in exceptional circumstances. Exceptional circumstances include (but is not limited to) disability, illness or carer responsibilities.

** International student includes students who are holders of a temporary protection (refugee) visa.

Selection Criteria

The Scholarship selection will be made based on financial need and academic merit.

Applications should be submitted online through the Flinders University Student System  by the specified closing date.  

Domestic students should apply via the "Matthew Flinders Domestic" offering, and international students should apply via "Matthew Flinders International" one.
