MENA Non-Resident Fellowship 2027

The MENA Non-Resident Fellowship is a one-year international research and collaboration programme bringing together scholars working on MENA-related issues. Through dedicated research tracks, fellows will collaborate in small research groups to develop shared research agendas, produce academic and policy-oriented outputs, and organize research panels, workshops, and scholarly discussions.

The programme is designed to move beyond individual research by supporting the development of sustainable research communities. Throughout the fellowship, each group will work toward establishing a collaborative research identity and developing opportunities for longer-term research projects and funding in Estonia and the European Union.

Aim and Benefits of MENA Non-Resident Fellowship Fellowship

• One-year affiliation with the Social Sciences Lab MENA, including access to eligible research funding schemes available through the Lab.
• Opportunities to develop joint research papers, publications, policy-oriented outputs, and other research projects.
• Opportunities to organize and participate in research panels, workshops, and academic discussions.
• Research mentorship and academic guidance from experienced scholars within the Lab’s network.
• Support in developing long-term collaborative research projects and identifying relevant funding opportunities in Estonia and the European Union.
• Continued engagement with the SSL–MENA research community beyond the fellowship period, subject to active participation and Lab Community arrangements.

Requirements for MENA Non-Resident Fellowship Fellowship Qualification

• Be researcher or scholar working on, or with a demonstrated research interest in, MENA-related issues.
• Hold at least a Master’s degree or equivalent, completed before the application deadline.
• Have an academic or professional background relevant to one of the programme’s research tracks.
• Have professional English proficiency.?
• Be willing to actively contribute to the Research Group, including research tasks, discussions, meetings, and collaborative outputs.
• Demonstrate a genuine commitment to developing long-term research collaboration beyond individual participation in the fellowship.

NOTE: This call is open only to applicants whose research interests are directly connected to one of the two research tracks currently offered. Applicants must indicate their selected track in the application form and demonstrate how their research interests align with it:

1. MENA Political & Legal Studies;
2. MENA Economic & International Cooperation.

** Only applications demonstrating a clear connection to one of these two tracks will be considered. Future calls may introduce different research tracks based on the Lab’s programmes and research opportunities available at the time.
