MENA Visitors Program 2027

Building bridges between global scholars and the MENA region!

The MENA Visitors Program hosts scholars affiliated with institutions outside the MENA region who are interested in conducting research, developing academic collaborations, and engaging with the region’s scholarly community. The program supports research mobility and provides visitors with opportunities to connect with scholars working on related topics, exchange knowledge and experiences, and strengthen their research skills and academic networks. Visitors benefit from the guidance and mentorship of senior scholars at SSL–MENA and gain access to an interdisciplinary research environment focused on the MENA region.

MENA Visitors Program Fellowship

Aim and Benefits of MENA Visitors Program Fellowship

• Flexible research affiliation with the Social Sciences Lab MENA, with the duration of the visit aligned to the visitor’s research project.
• Access to the Lab’s international research community and an interdisciplinary academic environment focused on the MENA region.
• Academic exchange and knowledge sharing through discussions, seminars, workshops, research meetings, and other Lab activities.
• Research mentorship and academic guidance from experienced scholars within the Lab’s network, where relevant to the visitor’s research objectives.
• Opportunities to expand international academic networks and establish longer-term collaborations with researchers and institutions working on MENA-related issues.
• Continued engagement with the SSL–MENA community beyond the visit, subject to active participation and the Lab Community’s applicable arrangements.

Requirements for MENA Visitors Program Fellowship Qualification

• All nationalities are welcome. Applicants should, however, demonstrate a clear and sustained interest in MENA studies.
• Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of Arabic is an asset but not mandatory.
• Be a researcher, scholar, academic, or research professional affiliated with an institution outside the MENA region, with a demonstrated interest in MENA-related research.
• Have a research project, research interest, or academic objective related to the MENA region that can benefit from engagement with SSL–MENA’s research community.
• Demonstrate an academic or professional background relevant to their proposed area of research.
• Be able to participate in relevant research meetings, academic activities, and other programme activities during their visit.
• Be willing to contribute to the Lab’s academic community through knowledge exchange, research discussions, collaboration, or other relevant activities.

Interested scholars are invited to submit their expression of interest by email to [email protected].

The email should include:

1. Letter of interest.
2. An updated CV highlighting relevant academic and research experience.
3. A research proposal or work plan outlining the activities, objectives, and expected outcomes that the applicant intends to develop during the visit.

NOTE: Applications will be reviewed based on the applicant’s research profile, the relevance and feasibility of the proposed visit, and the potential for academic exchange and collaboration with SSL–MENA.
