UNICEF 2023 Internship Programme

The internship will contribute to the UNICEF work plan in Health Systems Strengthening and Primary Health Care of the Health Section, around UNICEF and partners capacity for HSS, including quantitative and qualitative analysis, development of knowledge products, advocacy and policy briefs and review of annual and period reports in the relevant areas.  The internship will also contribute to facilitating direct and virtual-based conversations with internal and external stakeholders towards the above tasks of the workplan.

UNICEF identified an important role for the organization in ensuring national systems are strong and resilient enough to provide sustainable quality services to those who need them, particularly children, as part of its strategy to achieve its strategic goals, and in response to global imperatives such as the Sustainable Development Goals and Universal Health Coverage.

The documentation of programmatic actions in specific areas or work  drawn from HSS Learning Program trainees and graduates at country, regional and headquarter levels will contribute to support staff work on HSS and PHC towards UHC to meet UNICEFs strategic goals of ending preventable maternal, new-born and child deaths and promoting the health and development of all children and reducing inequities in health.

The intern undertaking this assignment will work within the HSS unit in the Health Section, Programme Division at UNICEF HQ, and will report to and work under the direct supervision of the HSS Health Specialist, to support HSS unit engagement on capacity building.

Aim and Benefits of UNICEF Internship Programme

Our Internship Programme offers students and recent graduates the opportunity to gain direct practical work experience.

• Duration: The duration of an internship is normally between six and twenty-six weeks. Internships can be on a full-time or a part-time basis.

• Expenses we cover: UNICEF provides a monthly stipend to interns. A one-time lump sum, as a contribution towards travel and visa costs, may also be granted when funding is available.

• Visa: If necessary, UNICEF will provide relevant supporting documents for our visa applications.


Requirements for UNICEF Internship Programme Qualification

Your profile could be a good fit if it meets the following requirements:

• At least 18 years old.

• Enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or PhD programmeor have graduated within the past two years.

• Proficient in at least one of UNICEF's working languages: English, French or Spanish. Fluency in the working language of the office you are applying to, may also be required.

• Have no immediate relatives (e.g., mother, father, sister, brother) working with UNICEF, or any other relatives in your reporting line of authority.

• Have strong academic performance and motivation

• Additional consideration will be given to any professional experience relevant to the function you’re applying for.
