University of Edinburgh Postgraduate Scholarship

Aim and Benefits of University of Edinburgh Postgraduate Scholarship

• The scholarship provides a stipend at UKRI rates (this is updated each academic year; for 2025/2026 this was £20,780), paid monthly, and a full fee waiver, and is awarded for four years subject to satisfactory academic progression. The School's PhD programme has a duration of four years; applicants should be advised that no funding is provided during the writing-up period.

Requirements for University of Edinburgh Postgraduate Scholarship Qualification

The Minto scholarship is available to students who are residents of the following countries:

• Australia
• New Zealand
• Canada
• Finland
• Norway
• Sweden
• Denmark

Applicants for the scholarship must have applied for first-year entry to the School's PhD programme. Information on the application process can be found on the Degree Finder at the following link: PhD with Integrated Study in Economics

Interview date, Process and Venue for University of Edinburgh Postgraduate Scholarship

• All scholarships will be awarded on academic merit. 
• To obtain admission to the PhD programme, applicants must have a distinction in a Masters degree equivalent to the Scottish Graduate Programme in Economics MSc, taught at Edinburgh (more information on this is available on our website at the following link: Scottish Graduate Programme in Economics).

Application Deadline

How to Apply

• To register interest in the Minto Scholarship, please contact [email protected] once you have submitted an application for the PhD programme. 
• All applicants for the scholarship who are considered as eligible for entry onto the programme by the School's PGR Director will be interviewed.
• The closing date for applications for the scholarship is Monday 2nd February 2026. Interviews will be held in late February/early March.
