Applicatons are now open for the UQ 2025 Howard and Gladys Sleath Scholarship. Established in 1998 following Howard Sleath's bequest of 50% of his estate to the University of Queensland. Mr Howard Sleath was well-known to instrumentalists throughout Australia for the excellence of his craftsmanship and skill as a maker of stringed instruments. Mr Sleath gave the State of Queensland a string quartet of instruments to be kept under the supervision of the Head of the School of Music. The instruments were first demonstrated by the Mayne String Quartet at a concert to inaugurate the Howard Sleath Quartet of Instruments in 1974.
