UTS Humanitarian Scholarship 2027

The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Humanitarian Scholarship has been established to support undergraduate studies for students holding asylum seeker bridging or temporary protection visas as a result of their arrival to Australia as asylum seekers or humanitarian entrants.

The UTS Humanitarian Scholarship program underscores a university-wide commitment to provide Scholarships across all UTS faculties that offer undergraduate degrees to asylum seekers unable to access Commonwealth Supported places or government loan schemes.

Requirements for UTS Humanitarian Scholarship Undergraduate Scholarship Qualification

To be eligible for the Scholarship, an applicant must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Have temporary asylum seeker or refugee residence status and hold a Temporary Protection Visa (subclass 785), or Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (subclass 790), or Temporary Visa (subclass 449) Bridging Visa A - E and has made an application for a Protection Visa  or Temporary Humanitarian Concern Visa (subclass 786); and
    • Applicants holding an Australian Bridging Visa A–E will be required to provide either evidence that they have lodged an application for a Protection Visa (Subclass 866), or a letter from a recognised refugee or asylum support organisation, or migration lawyer, confirming that they are seeking asylum in Australia and outlining the status of their protection matter.
  • Be able to demonstrate that they do not have the financial means to support payment of their tuition fees without receiving the Scholarship; and
  • Have applied and been deemed eligible for admission to a UTS undergraduate degree or UTS postgraduate coursework degree; and
  • Apply and commence at UTS in the next available intake for the course after completion of their study used as their basis of admission; and
  • Be intending to enrol full-time; and
  • All candidates must apply and complete the UTS online Scholarships Application (incomplete applications will not be considered) ; and
  • All candidates must be available to attend an interview, if required.

Interview date, Process and Venue for UTS Humanitarian Scholarship Undergraduate Scholarship

  • Academic Merit based on ATAR or GPA, or equivalent result; and 
    •  As demonstrated in the Scholarship application (and interview if required): Motivation to succeed in the chosen degree program;
    • Circumstances impacting the applicant’s ability to support themselves financially and how receipt of the Scholarship will assist their academic success; and
  • Preference will be given to undergraduate applicants who have not commenced or completed an undergraduate degree in Australia.

Unsuccessful applicants who meet visa requirements but do not have a high enough ATAR for standard UTS Bachelor entry or UTS matriculation will be invited to interview for the UTS College Domestic Scholarship. An unsuccessful outcome email will be sent, advising them to contact the Student Equity Project Officer if they are interested in being considered for the UTS College pathway. 

Applicants who are unsuccessful in securing a Scholarship and subsequently transition to UTS College will be guaranteed a Humanitarian Scholarship place at UTS for the following year upon successful completion of the relevant Diploma, subject to meeting the relevant requirements. The Scholarship place must be taken within one year of completing the UTS College program.

How to Apply

  • To be considered for the UTS Humanitarian Scholarship all applicants must first apply for admission to a UTS course that commences in 2027. Applying for a UTS course can be done via UTS International or the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).
  • If you are applying for admission to a UTS course via UTS International please email UTS Scholarships for a code to waive the course application fee.
  • All applicants must then submit a scholarship application form in order to be considered for this scholarship. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
