Universities New Zealand – Te Pokai Tara 2025 Woolf Fisher Scholarship (Up to $70,000)

The Woolf Fisher Scholarships were established in 2003 by the Woolf Fisher Trust and are administered by Universities New Zealand – Te Pokai Tara. Scholarships are worth approximately $70,000 a year for up to four years and are awarded annually to outstanding New Zealand graduate students for doctoral study at Cambridge University.

The Trust's main objective is that Woolf Fisher Scholars will become leaders in their fields and make a significant contribution to New Zealand.

Aim and Benefits of Universities New Zealand Woolf Fisher Scholarship

A maintenance allowance of £21,500 sterling per year for each year of full time study; an annual economy non-transferrable airfare to and from London, and the approved University Composition Fee which includes the College Fee. 

It is estimated that each Scholarship will have a value of approximately $70,000 per year. 

Up to three scholarships are awarded each year.

Requirements for Universities New Zealand Woolf Fisher Scholarship Qualification

Applicants must: 

1. Be a New Zealand citizen.
2. Be under the age of thirty in the year of application (i.e. will not have reached their thirtieth birthday by 31 December in the year the application is submitted)
3. Have attended a secondary school in New Zealand for at least two years, and
4. Have graduated or are expected to graduate with a first-class honours degree from a university in New Zealand.

No application will be considered from a student already living outside of New Zealand and no award will be made for post-doctoral study.

Successful scholars will possess many of the qualities admired by Woolf Fisher:
