Croucher Foundation is an independent private foundation dedicated to promoting the standard of the natural sciences, technology and medicine in Hong Kong. We are funded by a trust established by the late Noel Croucher in 1979. As a Croucher Fellow, and depending on your circumstances, you can expect to receive the following benefits:
A maintenance allowance which is set at USD63,000 per annum;
A one-way premium economy class airfare at both the beginning and end of your tenure;
A one-off arrival allowance of USD1,000 to cover the costs of arriving in a new country during your first year of tenure;
A fellowship research allowance of up to USD15,000 per annum to be used at your discretion for research expenses;
An academic development allowance of up to USD2,000 per annum to allow you to attend conferences, workshops or courses during the tenure of your award;
A medical insurance allowance of up to USD2,000 per annum;
A family allowance of up to USD16,000 per annum for the first child and up to USD6,800 per annum for every additional child who lives with you during the entire duration of the award;
And, if you are interested in science education, we will grant you an allowance to support well-designed activities and projects in schools and in the community where you are based for your fellowship. You would need to submit a simple proposal for this. Your programme of activities should be designed to involve local school students, teachers, families and/or other non-specialist audiences in dialogue and debate. It should be completed within the period of your award.
To be eligible to apply, you must:
Be a permanent resident of Hong Kong;
Have obtained your doctoral degree after September 2023.
Please also note the following:
Fellowships are focused on your development as a researcher. They are not primarily meant as grants for enabling a university or institution to employ research personnel for research projects.
We will view your application more favourably if you are proposing to move to a new institution.
We also welcome applications from fully qualified medical doctors wishing to pursue research in their chosen field of specialisation.
We cannot consider your application if you are already receiving full financial support from your proposed host institution/supervisor.
What happens next
Short-listed candidates will be invited to attend an interview in March/April 2025.
If you are not contacted by late April, you may consider that you have not been shortlisted. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide feedback on unsuccessful applications. We aim to write to unsuccessful applicants by late May, if not earlier.

Once your proposal has been submitted, it cannot be amended.
Copies of your HKCEE and HKALE or HKDSE certificates or equivalent qualifications and copies of official transcripts of your university records, as well as your PhD degree certificate (if available);
Copies of reprints of up to three of your most significant publications (if applicable);
Documentation to prove that you are a permanent resident of Hong Kong, which is a pre-requisite for the award.

Your application should be submitted via Croucher Foundation’s online application system. For the 2025-26 selection exercise, your application must be submitted by 5pm (Hong Kong time) on 15 November 2024.
