The University of Waikato Taught Postgraduate Scholarship was established in 2012 to support students studying taught papers at postgraduate level at the University of Waikato. Preference may be given to students on a pathway to research qualifications at the University of Waikato. The number of Scholarships offered each year is based on the total pool of funding available. Awards will be determined on academic merit and the strategic objectives of the University.

The value of the Scholarship will be up to $3,000 and will be calculated on the eligible taught papers, the recipient is enrolled in for the relevant trimester as follows:
a) Total 60-points = $3,000
b) Total 45-points = $2,250
c) Total 30-points = $1,500
d) Total 15-points = $750
To be eligible applicants must:
a. Taught coursework in at least one 500-level taught paper; or
b. Taught components of a master’s degree such as 30 or 60-point Directed Study/Dissertations, Postgraduate Diplomas, Postgraduate Certificates, and Honours degrees normally of one year duration; or
c. EDUCA980, EDUCA981, EDUCA982, EDUCA983 or EDUCA990.
The Scholarship is open to NZ Citizens, NZ Permanent Residents, NZ Resident Class Visa holders or Australian Citizen/Permanent Residents domiciled in NZ, and international students. International students must have completed at least 120-points of study at a New Zealand university, before the closing date of the relevant scholarship round. Applications of international students who are due to complete 120 points of study at the end of the relevant trimester at the time of application will be sent to the panel for consideration.
Previous recipients may apply again if they continue to meet the eligibility criteria.
Applicants must not be eligible for a staff fees concession during the tenure of the Scholarship.
Selection of recipients is based on:
Academic merit, with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of A- expected. Normally, GPA calculations will be based on the equivalent of the applicant’s last two years of full-time study (i.e. 240 points of study).
Other factors that may be taken into consideration include experience of the applicant (e.g., references, prior work experience etc), knowledge of M?tauranga M?ori and/or Pacific knowledges, alignment priorities of Divisions/Faculties/Schools and Research Institutes, financial hardship and the strategic objectives of the University.
