The University of Kent is pleased to offer four EPSRC studentships starting in September 2024 to exceptional students undertaking PhD study in the following schools on a full-time basis:

These scholarships include a doctoral stipend (equivalent to the Research Councils UK National Minimum Doctoral Stipend, £18,622 2023/24 rate, 2024/25 to be announced) for 3.5 years, tuition fees at the home rate and access to further research support funding.
If you are applying as an international candidate, Kent will waive the difference between Home and International fees.
This award is open to both UK residents and international (this includes EU) candidates.
To be classed as a home student, candidates must meet the following criteria and the associated residency requirements:
If a candidate does not meet the criteria above, they would be classed as an international student.
If you are applying as an overseas student (this includes EU nationals), Kent will waive the difference between the Home and Overseas fees. Please be aware that there is a 30% cap on international studentships that can be awarded.
The University of Kent requires all non-native speakers of English to read a minimum standard of proficiency in written and spoken English before beginning a postgraduate degree.
Successful candidates will demonstrate academic excellence and outstanding research potential.
Applicants should have, or expect to obtain, a first or upper second-class honours degree in a relevant subject, and ideally a Master’s degree or equivalent.
Applicants must have support from a supervisor before applying.

If you are applying to the School of Computing or the School of Engineering, your research project must have the support of a main supervisor or supervisory team.
If you wish to apply to the School of Physics and Astronomy or the School of Chemistry and Forensic Sciences, you will need to apply to a supervisor-led project.

Apply for a PhD at Kent: follow the University of Kent’s online application process and apply to an eligible PhD programme.
As part of the process, students should include the following:

Step 2
Once you have applied through the University of Kent online application portal (KentVision), you must email your Application ID number, your full name and your PhD programme and if you are applying to a specific project to [email protected]. This step is to confirm that you wish to apply for an EPSRC Scholarship, only those who have emailed their interest will be considered.
Have you already applied to Kent or are you a current Kent PhD student?
If you have already applied or have a deferred offer, or you are a current PhD student at Kent, you do not need to follow Step 1 as we should already have your application on our system. Please contact your supervisor to inform them you wish to be considered for the EPSRC scholarship. You must also email your details to [email protected].
