We are seeking to appoint a Post-Doctoral Scientist to contribute to a new project on Plasmodium falciparum gametocyte development in the bone marrow of living malaria-infected individuals and the impact of malaria parasite accumulation on bone marrow function. This exciting project include laboratory and field studies and are based primarily in UHAS, Ho, Ghana, but with the opportunity for experimental work in collaborator’s laboratories at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Rome, Italy (Dr. Pietro Alano), and the Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden, Umea, Sweden (Prof. Oliver Billker).
The University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho (UHAS) was established by an Act of Parliament (Act 828 in December, 2011) and envisioned to become a pre-eminent research and practically oriented health educational institution dedicated to community service. The main campus including the central administration is in Ho. A second campus is located in Hohoe. The University started operations in September, 2012 with 154 students. The successful Post-doctoral fellow will be supported with funding from the Royal Society, UK/African Academy of Sciences for 2 years in the first instance with a possibility of an extension based on performance.
Funds will cover:

• Other research related cost such as visit to collaborator’s laboratory
