Walsh Scholarships Programme 2021-2022 Masters Scholaships tor International Students

Walsh Scholarships Programme – This Masters Programme is geared specifically to build the competencies for careers in agricultural advisory and education services whether in the public or private sector. Applications are invited from graduates with a minimum 2.2.Honours BAgrSc (or equivalent) degree.

Applications from graduates with pass level degrees coupled with significant and appropriate work experience in the sector will also be considered.

There are two programme options available to candidates:

  1. Masters (MAgrSc) in Agricultural Innovation Support

  2. Masters (MAgrSc) in Agricultural Extension

About Walsh Scholarships Programme

The Teagasc Walsh Scholarships Programme, founded in 1993 in honour of Dr Tom Walsh, is a postgraduate programme whereby Teagasc offers up to 50 scholarships each year. Aim and Benefits of Walsh Scholarships Programme Masters Scholaships

  • The value of a Walsh Scholarship is €24,000 per annum out of which the recipient pays college fees.
  • Students are paid monthly and are exempt from income tax. No PRSI or pension deductions are made. Travel expenses are paid at reduced rates. Subsistence, where eligible, is on the basis of approved and vouched receipts only.

Requirements for Walsh Scholarships Programme Masters Scholaships Qualification

In order to be eligible to apply for the scholarship, applicants must:

  1. Applicants must hold an upper second-class honours degree in agricultural science or equivalent discipline that meets the educational qualification requirements of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and the Marine for the Farm Advisory System (FAS).
  2. Applicants with a pass degree coupled with significant and appropriate work experience may also be considered. 
  3. Applicants whose first language is not English must also demonstrate English language proficiency of IELTS 6.5 (no band less than 6.0 in each element), or equivalent.

Many former Walsh Scholars are currently employed in advisory and education roles in Teagasc and many others are in key positions in public services and agri-food companies in Ireland and abroad.
