The Kidu Foundation aspires to effectively complement government efforts to address critical issues in areas of education, the rule of law, democracy and media, sustainable economic development, and preservation of the country’s environmental and cultural heritage.
'Kidu' or wellbeing of the people is traditionally a Royal Prerogative and enshrined today in the Constitution of the Kingdom of Bhutan as a fundamental responsibility of His Majesty the King. In the history of the Bhutanese Monarchy, the Kings have reigned on the principle of service of the people. Beyond the duties of governance, Monarchs have always considered it their sacred duty to provide for the most vulnerable sections of society.
The Foundation is working with the Trust to offer the Bhutan King’s Scholarship at the University of Cambridge. This one-year scholarship is available to applicants for Masters degrees who are resident citizens of Bhutan. It will be awarded to candidates in any academic subject, although priority will be given to courses within the fields of education, law, journalism, economics, management, public policy, international relations, political science, engineering, mathematics, science, environmental studies, public health and medicine. The scholarship is tenable at any College within the University of Cambridge. Applicants should show a firm commitment to return to work in Bhutan after completion of the degree.
